5 Reasons you should be feeding your dog a raw diet.
The world of pet nutrition is complicated and with all the different guidance and “rules” out there, there’s a lot of information – and misinformation – to weed through as a pet parent to determine what is best for your furry family members. When it comes to their diets, it should be simple, and we believe that truly raw is best.
So, we’re going to make it easier and break down five of the top reasons that you should be feeding your dog a truly raw diet.
1 – A raw diet is a natural diet.
Dogs are descendants of wolves and while the pets that live in our homes with us are thousands of years removed from hunting for their meals like their ancestors, their bodies are not so different. Dogs are anatomically designed to derive their nutrients from raw meat, organs, and bone; their bodies are built to be able to process them. Alternatively, their bodies struggle to digest and pull nutrients from overly processed kibble and canned food. Kibble also often contains synthetic fillers, preservatives, meat byproducts, and even denatured meat, none of which is good for our dogs’ digestive systems. The best way to ensure that they are getting the nutrition they need is by feeding a well-rounded and balanced raw diet of fresh foods; a natural diet.
2 – Just like with people, the food our dogs eat directly impacts their quality of life.
Food is fuel for our dogs’ bodies and what they eat has an enormous impact on their health and on how their bodies function. While not everything is in our control when it comes to the health of our pets, what we choose to feed them certainly is. We want to make sure we are providing them with a nutritiously rich diet that is well-balanced and biologically appropriate to ensure that they can be their healthiest selves. A healthy dog is a happy dog!
3 – We want our furry family members to be with us as long as possible.
Healthier bodies live longer lives, and we want our pets to be with us for as long as they possibly can. An investment in your pet’s health is an investment in their longevity, and feeding them a nutrient dense, well-balanced diet is one of the best investments that you can make in their health. But feeding a raw diet doesn’t have to break the bank. At Carnos, our priority is making raw pet food affordable and accessible, because we believe that premium quality food for our pets should not come with the sticker shock of a premium price tag. In the grand scheme of things, a dog’s life is short. One of the best things you can do to make sure they live long and happy lives is to feed them a diet that enables longevity; a truly raw diet.
4 – A healthy dog is less likely to have undesirable behavioral problems.
We know that with humans, physical health is intrinsically linked with mental health. Well, this is also true in our pets. Research has shown that an imbalance of the bacteria in your dog’s gut microbiome can lead to negative consequences in not only their physical health, but their mental health as well. Behavioral problems like aggression or anxiety can be fueled by an unhealthy digestive system, the result of a poor diet. You can learn more about this correlation in our “Bad behavior linked to diet” blog.
5 – A raw diet is easily customized to any diet-influenced allergies, health problems, or lifestyles.
Our pets are individuals, each with their own personality and physical traits that make them uniquely ‘them’, including their health. Some dogs may have allergies while others experience health conditions but no matter what makes your dog unique, we should be ensuring that their diet is as specific to them as their personality quirks are.
By feeding dry kibble or canned food, you lose the ability to customize your pet’s diet, especially because you really can’t be entirely sure what ingredients are in that kibble or canned food to begin with. These mystery ingredients may even be the cause of your pet’s health issues. When you switch to a truly raw diet with Carnos, you can trust that we hand-select each and every ingredient that goes into our products, and we’re transparent about what those ingredients are. Whether you have a dog with food allergies, an aging pup that needs a specialized diet, or any other host of diet specific-needs, you can ensure that your pet is getting exactly what they need – and eliminating what they don’t – with a fresh food diet.
