DIY Homemade Dog Treats – Spring Flower Treats
Flowers? For spring? You bet! Our certified canine nutritionist has whipped up an easy homemade healthy dog treat recipe that you can DIY for your favorite four-legged-friends to celebrate the season.
Homemade Flower Dog Treat Ingredients:
- Carnos Nut Butter – 1/3 cup
- Carnos Boneless Ground Chicken or Carnos Boneless Ground Turkey – 1/3 cup
- Coconut Flour – 1/3 cup
- Coconut Oil – as needed
- Mix-ins to function as natural “food coloring”: Turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, blue spirulina, dried berry powders or vegetable powder
Required Prep Supplies
- One large mixing bowl
- Multiple small mixing bowls
- Silicone flower molds (or whatever shape you prefer!)
- Paper towels
- Parchment paper
- Chilled plate
- Small, clean paint brush
- Storage containers for pet food only — do not cross-contaminate in storage containers meant for food for human consumption
Recipe Instructions
- In a bowl, mix nut butter, meat, and flour together. Adjust ingredient amounts as needed to reach a cookie dough consistency.
- Pack “dough” into silicon molds and freeze.
- Gently melt coconut oil in various small bowls. Add colored powdered mix-ins such as turmeric, ceylon cinnamon, blue spirulina, etc. Each ingredient will produce a different color, so choose whichever mix-ins/colors you’d like.
- Thoroughly combine the colored powders and the melted coconut oil.
- Remove silicone molds from freezer. Pop the frozen flower treats out of the mold.
- Dip each cold treats in the colored oil. Let any excess oil drip off onto a paper towel and place the newly colored treats on a chilled plate lined with parchment paper.
- “Paint” any desired floral details on each treat with colored coconut oil and a clean paintbrush.
- These treats are good for 2-3 days refrigerated. For long-term storage, keep frozen.
