Eggnog for Dogs: A dog-friendly eggnog custard recipe.

Eggnog is enjoyed by so many as a holiday treat, so why shouldn’t our dogs get to enjoy it too?! Our in-house certified canine nutritionist, Michelle Short, has whipped up a recipe for dog-friendly eggnog custard that you won’t want to miss this holiday season. Make a batch of this healthy dog treat for your favorite pooch and watch them lap it up with holiday glee!

Dog-Friendly Eggnog Ingredients:

– 6 eggs
– 8 tbsp powdered goat milk
– 1/4 water
– 1/4 tsp cinnamon (*must be Ceylon cinnamon not cassia)
– 2 tbsp pure Maple syrup

Recipe Instructions:

  1. Separate yolks and whites. If you want, keep 4 whites for making meringue cookies for the humans and 2 whites for “doggy whipped cream”.
  2. Whisk the yolks until they lighten in color.
  3. Whisk in the Ceylon cinnamon, maple syrup, and water.
  4. Slowly whisk in the powdered goat milk.
  5. Pour into mini ramekins for small dogs or normal ramekins for large dogs.
  6. Fill an oven-safe dish with water and place the ramekins in the water bath. The water should come up to about halfway on the ramekins.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-40 minutes, or until the tops of the custard are each very golden brown.
  8. Cool the custard, and then place in the fridge to chill. Leave the egg whites unwhipped until ready to serve.
  9. Beat the egg whites on high until they hold stiff peaks. Add a dollop or pipe on top of custard as “whipped cream”.

Nutritionist Pro Tip: This is a high calorie, rich treat so make sure to feed your dogs this eggnog/custard in small amounts as a rare treat. Too much may cause them to experience digestive upset.
