Fruitcake for Dogs: A dog-friendly fruitcake recipe for the holidays.
Fruitcake is pretty polarizing holiday treat, you love it or you really don’t. But our dog-friendly fruitcake recipe is one that every furry family member will love; it will have your dog wagging for more! Unlike the traditional fruitcake base, ours is made primarily of Carnos Truly Raw Ground Beef Heart and the recipe was formulated by our in-house canine nutritionist. Dog-Friendly Fruitcake Ingredients:
- 1 lb Carnos Ground Beef heart
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup coconut flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup dried apricots
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup dried blueberries
- 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (*must be Ceylon cinnamon, not cassia)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Slice the dried apricots in half.
- Whisk the eggs until they slightly lighten in color.
- Mix flour, meat, water, fruit, and spices into the whisked eggs.
- Pack the mixture into a greased loaf pan, and top with whole apricots.
- Bake for 50 minutes or until the fruitcake’s internal temperature reaches 160 degrees.
- Remove the fruitcake from the oven, let cool and once fully cooled, flip onto a plate to release.
- Return to pan and refrigerate.
- Drizzle melted coconut oil over chilled loaf and top with pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries.
- Slice and serve!
Nutritionist Pro Tip: Use dried fruit without added sugar and sulfur. We used Honestly Cranberry, Herbaila Apricots, and Nestor Blueberries. Serve in moderation and freeze any fruitcake that’s not used within 2 days.
