Dog-Friendly Nut Butter Ingredients:
- 240 grams soaked and roasted almonds
- 240 g soaked and roasted pumpkin seeds
- 64 g hemp seed hearts
- 4 tbsp raw honey (Manuka is best)
- 1/8-1/4 tsp sea salt (optional)
- 4 tsp Ceylon cinnamon (not cassia)
- 15 drops NOW Vit E Oil
- 1/3 cup MCT Oil
Recipe Instructions:
- Soak almonds and pumpkin seeds overnight in salted water to remove Phytic acid from the nuts.
- Drain the nuts and seeds and spread them out on a baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
- Bake at 200 for long enough to dry the pumpkin seeds and almonds all the way through and lightly roast them. Cut an almond in half to check the center for moisture. Any water left inside will prevent the butter from blending, so the nuts need to be thoroughly dried out.
- Once dry, remove from the oven and cool completely.
- Add the dried seeds and nuts to a food processor or powerful blender along with the hemp seeds, honey, cinnamon, salt, vitamin E and MCT.
- Pulse the blender and periodically scrape down the sides until you reach your desired consistency. If you want a smooth butter, it will take longer for the oils in the seeds to come out and blend.
- You can add more MCT oil as needed for consistency, but make sure to wait for the oils in the seeds to fully blend before you do so to prevent your butter from becoming overly oily.
- Smear a small amount inside our dried trachea or a Toppl for extra enrichment.
- Store a small amount in the fridge in an airtight container and freeze the rest.
Nutritionist Pro Tip: Make sure to feed this and other nut butters in moderation. Nuts and seeds are high in healthy fat and calories, but you don’t want tp overdo it.
